Woking District Scouts selection

Woking District Scouts

Over the weekend of 16 and 17 June twenty three of the best Scouts from Woking were all busy competing for the opportunity to represent Woking District at the 20th World Scout Jamboree in Thailand. Through 2 days of fierce but friendly rivalry they were required to:
  • Take part in various challenges, where they were judged on their teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Give a personal presentation on their own interests (outside of Scouting).
  • Be interviewed by the selection panel.

District Selection Weekend - 16 & 17 June 2001

A panel of independent judges carefully monitored the progress of all of the Scouts. You can see more photos of how they got on by clicking on the photo album links to the left.

Before announcing the winners, Paul Truscott, Woking Scout District Commissioner, complemented all the competitors on their outstanding performances which he said were a credit to themselves and their leaders. He emphasised that all were worthy of a place at the Jamboree.

The results had been very close, but only five places and two reserve places were available for Woking Scouts and in the words of the District Commissioner, "these had been awarded to those that had just shone that little bit brighter overall".

The successful candidates were:

  • Kieran C (1st Byfleet Scouts)
  • Jonathan D (1st St. John's Scouts)
  • James D (1st Horsell Ventures)
  • Jeremy F (1st Horsell Scouts)
  • Robert M (1st Byfleet Scouts)
  • Daniel M (7th Woking Scouts)
  • Michael H (7th Woking Scouts) - Reserve place *
  • Alex F-F (1st Brookwood Scouts) - Reserve place *

* Following the selection weekend, both reserve candidates were offered (and accepted!!) additional places by Surrey County.
